Planted in the 1890’s, this wine is aged in 50% new large format French oak barrels designed specificaly for this vineyard by Tremeaux Cooperage in Burgundy. A deep rich black cherry color, which is followed by aromatics of black cherry, pain grille, roasted herbs and dark chocolate. The palate is full bodied and very giving, with layers of sweet cream, black cherry, Cassis and bramble. A Rhône-centric style that always reminds me of the Southern Rhône in its complexity.
Pouring a reflective ruby/purple hue, the 2023 Zinfandel Cartee Vineyard is 100% Zinfandel raised in 500-liter barrels from vines planted in the 1890s. Though seeing 50% new oak, the wine absorbs it beautifully, allowing dried strawberries, black raspberries, cedar, and wildflowers to shine. Medium to full-bodied, with crisp acidity and polished structure, this is one of my favorites in the tasting for its clarity and precision. Drink now or over the coming 12-15 years.

A posh zin that’s full-bodied, beautifully spicy and satisfyingly ripe and fruity. Subtle aromas of cinnamon, cloves, black cherries, cocoa and iron, with savory, slightly peppery and leafy accents. Full-bodied but elegant, sleek and delicious. Moderately silky tannins. Aged in 50% new French barrels. Drink now or hold.
